Tyler Perry Moving to Puerto Rico to Spend More Time With Son

Tyler Perry announces plans to move to Puerto Rico and spend more time with his son

Tyler Perry is ready for a change.

The entertainment mogul has revealed that he plans to move to Puerto Rico at the beginning of 2027 while significantly scaling back his workload in order to spend more time with his son.

During a new interview on TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle, Perry was asked whether he ever planned to slow down his incredibly busy career.

His answer caught attention.

“Yep, moving to Puerto Rico at the top of the year, and I’m pulling back a whole lot,” Perry revealed.

Perry explained that getting older played a major role in his decision. After decades of creating movies, television shows and building his entertainment empire, he said he feels it’s time to slow down and enjoy life more.

“Getting older [inspired this],” Perry explained, adding that he wants to enjoy more time with his son and take it all in.

Perry shares his 11-year-old son, Aman, with his former partner Gelila Bekele. The filmmaker has previously spoken about wanting to give his son as normal a childhood as possible despite growing up with a famous father.

The announcement does not mean Perry is completely walking away from Hollywood. Instead, his comments suggest that he plans to pull back from the nonstop pace that has defined much of his career.

The news comes as Perry continues promoting his latest film, Why Did I Get Married Again?, the third installment of the franchise that began in 2007. The movie recently premiered on Netflix and reunites much of the original cast.

For Perry, however, it appears the next chapter is about something much more personal.

After spending years building his career and entertainment empire, he wants to make sure he has time to enjoy life — and especially time with his son. ❤️
