Fans of The Challenge: Cutthroat (Season 42) have been left scratching their heads after the show’s official trailer suddenly disappeared online just days before its premiere. The unexpected removal sparked cancellation rumors across social media, while conflicting premiere dates only added to the confusion.
The speculation intensified when cast member Nurys Mateo posted on X that there had been “no promo” for the new season.
“Since there’s no promo, just wanted to remind y’all The Challenge 42 airs next Wednesday August 5th… I know there’s no buzz to make y’all excited for it but I promise it’s a good season.”

Her post quickly gained traction as fans questioned why MTV and Paramount+ had seemingly gone quiet ahead of one of the franchise’s biggest premieres.
Why Was The Challenge 42 Trailer Removed?
After the trailer disappeared from YouTube and social media, fans began sharing theories about what happened.
One rumor claimed the trailer may have featured an Imagine Dragons song that wasn’t fully cleared for promotional use. Reality TV commentator GamerVev shared the speculation online, though nothing has been officially confirmed.
Even longtime Challenge personality Scott Yager weighed in, joking that the rumor had taken on a life of its own after he mentioned it to someone in passing.
As of now, neither MTV nor Paramount+ has publicly explained why the trailer was taken down. Reports indicate the season itself was never canceled, and the issue appears to be tied only to the promotional trailer rather than the series.
Fans Also Noticed Different Premiere Dates
Adding to the confusion, promotional materials have displayed different release dates.
While Nurys Mateo reminded fans that the season premieres Wednesday, August 5, some promotional pages have shown August 2 for streaming availability, leaving viewers unsure of exactly when they can begin watching.

The conflicting dates fueled even more speculation online before cast members reassured fans that the season is still on the way.
The Challenge 42 Is Still Coming
Despite the rumors, cast member Cory Wharton later confirmed that The Challenge: Cutthroat is still scheduled to premiere on August 5, putting an end to widespread cancellation concerns. Reports suggest the trailer removal was likely a promotional or licensing issue rather than a sign that the season had been pulled.

With just days remaining before the premiere, fans are now hoping MTV releases a new trailer and ramps up promotion for what cast members continue to describe as an exciting season.
