Tyler Perry is bringing another original drama to Netflix this fall.
The filmmaker’s upcoming movie, Tyler Perry’s Doing Life, is set to premiere on Netflix in October 2026, with Naomi Baker and Jay Reeves leading the cast.
The film is the latest project from Perry’s ongoing creative partnership with Netflix and promises a gritty story centered on survival, redemption and an unexpected connection.
What Is Doing Life About?
Doing Life follows a struggling single mother fighting to survive whose life crosses paths with a reformed ex-convict with untapped talents. The two form an unlikely bond that ultimately gives them both a new sense of strength and possibility.
Netflix describes the movie as a gritty urban drama that explores the connection between two people whose circumstances bring them together in an unexpected way.
Perry wrote, directed and produced the film. He is also producing alongside Angi Bones and Tony L. Strickland.
Naomi Baker and Jay Reeves Lead the Cast
Baker, known for All American: Homecoming, takes on the role of the single mother at the center of the story. Reeves, who previously appeared in Perry’s The Six Triple Eight, stars as the reformed ex-convict.
The supporting cast includes Tamberla Perry, Karen Obilom, Jasmine Sargent and Danielle Moné Truitt.
The movie also features additional performers including Cornell Young IV, Joyce Glenn, Mike Massa, Justin James Boykin, Kelvin Witherspoon and Tracey Stephens.
Another Tyler Perry and Netflix Collaboration
Doing Life adds to Perry’s growing collection of Netflix projects. His previous work with the streamer includes A Fall from Grace, A Madea Homecoming, A Jazzman’s Blues, Mea Culpa, The Six Triple Eight and Straw.
Perry has also expanded his Netflix partnership into television, with projects including Beauty in Black and She the People.
With Doing Life, Perry is once again putting a Black ensemble at the center of a dramatic story dealing with complicated circumstances, second chances and personal survival.
When Does Doing Life Premiere?
Tyler Perry’s Doing Life is scheduled to arrive on Netflix in October 2026. Current listings point to October 2, 2026, although Netflix’s official Tudum announcement had not yet published a specific release date at the time of its August 20 update.
Fans can look forward to seeing Naomi Baker and Jay Reeves lead Perry’s latest Netflix drama when Doing Life arrives this fall.
