Zatima star Nzinga Imani is mourning the heartbreaking loss of her close friend, Wondrea Gilmore.
Imani shared an emotional tribute to Gilmore on Instagram, revealing just how deeply the loss has affected her. In the post, the actress described Gilmore as her “bestie” and said her heart was broken.
“It is still so difficult to wrap my mind around the fact that you are gone,” Imani wrote while addressing her late friend. She went on to remember Gilmore as someone whose love was “pure, generous, kind, genuine, and unwavering.”
Imani also reflected on the impact Gilmore had on the people around her, describing her as someone who made those she loved feel “seen, celebrated, protected, and believed in.”
The two women shared a longtime friendship and creative connection. Gilmore and Imani previously appeared together in the web series Pretty For A Big Gurl, where they were among the show’s plus-size female leads. In her emotional tribute, Imani revealed that Gilmore was also the godmother of her daughter, making the loss even more personal.
“My heart breaks knowing my baby girl won’t get to meet her Godmommy in this lifetime,” Imani wrote. “I wish she could know the woman who loved so deeply, laughed so loudly, and showed up so fully.”
Imani questioned why “the good ones” seem to die young and admitted that she does not know how she will ever fully process losing her friend.
Despite her grief, the Zatima actress promised to honor Gilmore by continuing to live fully.
“I will honor you by living. By loving harder. By showing up for my people. By chasing every dream,” she wrote, adding that she would continue laughing, dancing, traveling and celebrating while carrying Gilmore’s memory with her.
“I’ll tell my baby girl about her Godmommy,” Imani continued. “I’ll make sure your love continues to live through the people you touched.”
Imani ended the tribute with a promise to make her late friend proud.
“I’ll make you proud, bestie. I promise you that. 🤍”
The cause and circumstances surrounding Gilmore’s death have not been publicly confirmed in Imani’s tribute.
