Serayah is choosing herself.
The actress and singer announced Monday that she has ended her engagement and relationship with rapper Joey Bada$$, the father of her child. In a deeply personal statement shared on Instagram, Serayah revealed that repeated infidelity throughout their relationship ultimately played a role in her decision to walk away.
“There comes a point in a woman’s life when choosing herself is no longer an option, it becomes necessary,” she wrote.
Serayah explained that the decision was not one she made lightly. She said she loved deeply, believed in the life they were building together and wanted to protect their family. However, she said she was forced to confront what she described as “repeated infidelity,” including during some of the most vulnerable and meaningful moments of her life.
“I share this not for sympathy, retaliation, or to publicly tear anyone down,” Serayah continued. “I share it because too many women are taught to question themselves before they question what is happening right in front of them.”
The actress encouraged women who may find themselves in similar situations to trust their instincts and not compromise their values simply to preserve a relationship.
“If your intuition is telling you something is wrong, listen to it,” she wrote. “Don’t make yourself smaller to keep someone else comfortable.”
Serayah also made it clear that despite the end of their romantic relationship, their son remains her priority. She said she will always respect the fact that she and Joey share a child and emphasized that she wants to protect his peace, privacy and relationship with both of his parents.
“For that reason, I won’t be discussing the intimate details of our relationship publicly beyond what I have shared here,” she stated.
The split comes just over a year after Serayah and Joey Bada$$ welcomed their first child together. The couple had publicly appeared to be moving toward marriage, with their engagement becoming public in 2025.
Their relationship had previously been portrayed as a strong family partnership. In a past interview with Essence, the couple spoke about building a family together and creating a strong family structure. Serayah also previously praised her fiancé publicly, making the announcement of their breakup particularly significant. (Essence)
Serayah ended her statement on a hopeful note, acknowledging that the chapter did not close the way she once imagined.
“This chapter did not end the way I prayed it would,” she wrote. “But endings can also be beginnings.”
As of Monday, Joey Bada$$ had not publicly responded to Serayah’s announcement. (Essence)
