According to the couple, they first met in the sixth grade at Emerson Middle School in Los Angeles. Marcus remembered spotting Gracie during lunch and immediately wondering who she was. Although he admitted he was too nervous to ask her out at the time, the two became good friends.

The pair reconnected during their senior year at a mentoring event for their former middle school, and Marcus says he instantly knew their story wasn’t over.
