Former The Bachelor stars Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici Lowe are opening up about an emotional new chapter for their family after revealing that their 8-year-old son, Isaiah, has been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.

In a heartfelt Instagram post shared on July 21, Catherine described the past week as “incredibly difficult,” explaining that Isaiah was hospitalized after his pediatrician noticed several concerning symptoms during a routine annual checkup.
According to Catherine, Isaiah had experienced significant weight loss, increased thirst, and frequent urination. While the family initially believed some of the changes were related to a growth spurt and the summer heat, their pediatrician ordered additional tests and urged them to head to the emergency room after receiving alarming results.
Isaiah spent four days in the hospital, where he was officially diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Catherine shared that her son has already endured countless injections while learning an entirely new daily routine, but she praised his courage throughout the experience.
“Isaiah is my new hero and I am so proud to be his mama,” Catherine wrote while asking supporters to keep their family in their thoughts and prayers as they adjust to their new normal.
Sean and Catherine first met during Season 17 of The Bachelor in 2013 and have since become one of the franchise’s most enduring success stories. The couple, who married in 2014, are also parents to Samuel and Mia.

Following Catherine’s announcement, fans and fellow members of Bachelor Nation flooded social media with messages of encouragement and support, many sharing their own experiences with Type 1 diabetes and offering words of hope for Isaiah and the entire Lowe family.
