Serayah Explains Why She and Jacob Latimore Broke Up After Nearly Four Years Together

Serayah discusses her breakup with The Chi star Jacob Latimore during an interview with Jason Lee.

Serayah is speaking candidly about the end of her relationship with The Chi star Jacob Latimore, revealing that the pair simply reached different points in their lives when it came to commitment.

During a recent interview with Jason Lee, the actress and singer reflected on their nearly four-year relationship and explained why she ultimately decided it was time to move on.

“What Are We Doing?”

Looking back on the relationship, Serayah said she began questioning where things were headed as she approached her 30s.

“A lot happened,” she said with a laugh. “We were together for maybe three or four years and throughout that time I was getting closer to 30 and I was like, ‘What are we doing?’ He said, ‘We’re chilling.’ And I was like, ‘Oh no, I don’t wanna just chill.’”

According to Serayah, the conversation highlighted that she and Latimore were no longer on the same page about their future.

Wanting More Commitment

The actress explained that, in hindsight, the breakup wasn’t fueled by drama but by personal growth and a desire for greater security in a relationship.

“In hindsight, it was just me growing and wanting my partner to express more commitment-wise,” she shared. “I do know we had a great friendship… it just expired.”

She also spoke about how her perspective on relationships evolved as she got older.

“Here’s the thing for me, men can tend to ask for a lot without giving any type of security. Once your prefrontal lobe clicks on at 25, I feel like, as a woman, you’re like, ‘Wait, what are we doing here? Cause I’m not playing house, let’s be honest.’”

Knowing When to Walk Away

Serayah emphasized that communication was always important to her and that she knew it was time to leave once she realized they wanted different things.

“It was always very clear on what I’m doing and what I want, and when things aren’t starting to feel right, I gotta communicate it,” she said. “And if we’re not on the same page, then I need to exit.”

Her comments suggest the split came from differing expectations about the future rather than lingering animosity.

Moving Forward

Although Serayah acknowledged that the relationship had run its course, she also spoke positively about the friendship they shared during their time together.

The former couple’s relationship was closely followed by fans, and her latest interview offers the clearest explanation yet about why they ultimately decided to go their separate ways.
