Devale Ellis Shares Emotional Video as His Sons Cry While Learning Black History

Devale Ellis shares an emotional Instagram post after reposting a video of his sons crying while learning about Black history during a family educational trip.

Devale Ellis is opening up about a deeply personal parenting moment that has resonated with thousands of fans.

The Sistas and Divorced Sistas actor recently reposted an emotional video showing one of his sons in tears while learning about Black history during a family trip across the country. Alongside the clip, Ellis explained why he has never hidden the painful chapters of American history from his four sons.

“I don’t hide anything from my sons. Not even history,” Ellis wrote in the caption.

The actor said that because information is so easily accessible today, he believes it’s important to have open and honest conversations with his children, regardless of their age.

“With the current state of the world I find it imperative to be as open and honest as I can be with all 4 of my sons regardless of age,” he wrote. “As a father raising Kings I find it super important that they understand exactly who they are and where they stand on this land. A land our family is native to.”

Ellis shared that the video was recorded when his son Jackson was 12 years old as the family traveled across the United States to learn about American history firsthand.

Rather than shielding his children from the nation’s darkest moments, Ellis said he wants those experiences to strengthen them.

“I choose not to hide the dark parts with hopes that it empowers all of them to stand firm in who they are and what their ancestors have battled through,” he wrote. “Hopefully understanding where we have come from as a people will ignite a fire under my boys to meet every challenge with the belief that they can overcome ANYTHING!!!”

The actor also reflected on the ongoing debate surrounding how American history is taught in schools. He expressed concern that important parts of the country’s history could be removed from classrooms, adding that he believes children deserve to know the full story.

“I’m Raising Kings yall. They will know history even if you try to remove it from the classroom.”

Fans quickly flooded the comments with messages of support, applauding Ellis for choosing honesty over comfort and for encouraging his sons to embrace their heritage while learning from the past.

For many, the heartfelt video served as a powerful reminder of the importance of preserving history and passing those lessons on to future generations.
