Being in the public eye comes with plenty of praise—but it also comes with criticism.
The Golden Bachelorette star Joan Vassos recently opened up about the darker side of social media, admitting that she intentionally avoids reading comment sections in an effort to protect her peace.
During a recent conversation, Joan explained that staying away from comments has become one of the best ways to shield herself from negativity that often comes with reality TV fame.
She also revealed that Lisa Vanderpump gave her similar advice, encouraging her to avoid getting caught up in online comment sections. According to Joan, the guidance has helped her navigate the pressures of life in the spotlight.
However, avoiding comments hasn’t come without a downside.
Joan shared a touching story about discovering a heartfelt comment from an old friend nearly a month after it had been posted. Because she rarely checks her comments, she completely missed the thoughtful message when it was first shared.
Looking back, Joan admitted she felt guilty that she hadn’t responded sooner, especially because the comment meant so much to her.

“It’s hard,” Joan essentially explained. “When you avoid the negativity, you sometimes miss the positive too.”
Her honest confession resonated with many fans, highlighting the difficult balance public figures often face online. While stepping away from comment sections can help protect mental health, it can also mean missing genuine messages of encouragement from friends and supporters.
As more celebrities continue to speak openly about the emotional impact of social media, Joan’s experience serves as another reminder that even the kindest messages can get lost when the internet becomes an overwhelming place.

Despite the challenges, fans continue to support Joan and appreciate her openness about the realities of navigating fame in the digital age.
