Joan Vassos is revealing a surprising behind-the-scenes secret from her journey on The Golden Bachelorette—and it turns out one of the men who made it all the way to her final four nearly went home on the very first night.
Speaking candidly, Joan admitted that when filming began, she wasn’t searching for her future fiancé. Instead, she was focused on figuring out who she needed to eliminate.
“I’m gonna tell you something I’ve never said before. And that’s that I, the first night, you’re not really looking for who you’re going to end up with. You’re looking for the people you need to eliminate, which is really sad. And it’s not right but that’s how you go through night 1, because you have to make these really important decisions really, really quickly. And you have one night to make it.”
Because of the pressure to narrow down such a large group of men after only a few hours together, Joan said she was looking for the six contestants she wouldn’t be giving roses to.
“I had six, so I was really looking at—trying to figure out the six that I was going to not take to the next, you know, not give a rose to,” she explained.
What surprised fans most was Joan’s revelation that one contestant she almost eliminated ultimately became one of her final four.
According to Joan, the contestant’s overwhelming nerves nearly cost him his chance.
“It was little things. Like the one guy that I almost eliminated ended up in my final four. He was really, really nervous. And that’s not a reason to eliminate somebody, but I couldn’t get to know him because he was so nervous. He was shaking, he had sweaty palms, he couldn’t remember anything that he had planned to say, which is typical.”
Joan said she could relate because she experienced similar nerves when she first appeared on The Golden Bachelor.
“My mind went blank when I was on ‘Golden Bachelor.’ I just rambled when I got up there, which a lot of people do. But he was almost not even able to talk, so thank God I kept him around, he ended up being really great.”
Was Joan Talking About Chock?
Joan never revealed the identity of the contestant she nearly sent home, leaving Bachelor Nation to speculate.
