BET’s “Sistas” & “Zatima” Star Devale recently shared a post about guest speaking at a BET Open Casting Call.
Devale didn’t have an easy route into acting and it all started after his football dream suddenly came to an end.
Devale shared:
When I first retired from the NFL to focus on TV/film I was lost because there is no blue print to “Making It.” A vet in the game who I like to call my fairy God Mother, Tony Award Winning actress Adriane Lenox @a.lenoxzach(we attended church together) answered my phone call and agreed to school me on the game. All I had to do was drive her to a commercial audition. It was snowing like crazy during a cold winter November in 2009.
Aunt Adriane, as I call her, not only dropped some gems she introduced me to her commercial agent at Atlas Talent in NYC and the rest is history. It is because of her kindness and wisdom that I vow to always pay it forward to young artists. I remember feeling like all I needed was some guidance but didn’t know where to get it. She provided what I needed during a time of uncertainty and for that I will forever be indebted to her.
So when the legendary @iamrobireed asked me to speak at the BET open casting call I didn’t hesitate. Hopefully at least one aspiring artist will find the mental fortitude to chase their dreams and be EVERYTHING they want to be in this tough industry.
Life is too precious and people are too important for me to ever be too busy to shake a hand or take a picture with the very people that make me “important” to a company or brand… And for that I say Thank You Aunt Adriane for providing me with words that presented a perspective that will keep me grounded during this journey.
