Just recently Kay Kay and I got a call from Jackson’s school that he was the target of a deliberate racist remark by a classmate. After a conversation with Jackson the thing that stood out to me was his awareness. He said he was so mad, but chose not to respond the way he wanted to because he didn’t want to be labeled as “The Problem” and get in trouble.🤬 So he chose to report the incident. Man that hurt so much as a parent. He felt belittled and embarrassed but remained calm and didn’t lash out. I’m proud of him, and I won’t share our entire conversation BUT… He is very much aware that WE (The Ellises) won’t tolerate disrespect. At some point if a lesson needs to be taught HE needs to teach it and he will be FULLY SUPPORTED. We know the old adage “turn the other cheek…” BUT we are NOT teaching our sons to let ANYBODY get away with seeing how far they can be pushed without consequences & repercussions.😑 You best believe Kay & I were up at that school the next day. We made it very clear to the administrators that although Jackson was mature in this instance we cannot and WILL NOT guarantee that the same level of maturity will be exercised IF something like this were to happen again.
