CBS’s “SWAT” Season 7 is coming now that the strike is over and the cast is preparing to start filming.
The 7th season is set to be the final season on the channel after shockingly being canceled.
Just weeks before Season 6 wrapped, CBS canceled the long-running cop procedural, generating viewer outrage over the shocking move. It prompted star Shemar Moore, who plays team leader Sergeant Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, to voice his criticisms over the decision amid the series’ viewership growth, calling it a “mistake.” A few days later, in response to public outcry, CBS reversed its cancellation of S.W.A.T.
“S.W.A.T. got canceled. It makes no sense. We’re the best show on Friday nights at 8 o’clock for CBS. The last two years we’ve been killing it, us and the Fire [Country]show. … We’ve done nothing wrong. We did everything that was asked for. CBS is either gonna wake up and realize they made a mistake. Sony is gonna do their math and realize that this is not the right move.”
The show will return for a 7th and final season and will premiere on February 16th.
The crime thriller centers on Sergeant Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson (Moore), a Los Angeles native and former Marine who’s been tapped to lead a new “last stop” Special Weapons And Tactics unit (S.W.A.T.). The rest of the team includes seasoned David “Deacon” Kay (Harrington), cocky Jim Street (Russell), expert driver Dominique Luca (Johnson), and informant-connected Victor Tan (Lim). Responsible for the management of all Metro Division S.W.A.T. units is Commander Robert Hicks (St. Esprit), a senior LAPD official with the Special Operations Bureau.
The action drama is produced by Sony Pictures Television and CBS Studios starring Shemar Moore. It also stars Alex Russell, Lina Esco, Kenny Johnson, Peter Onorati, Jay Harrington, David Lim, Patrick St. Espirit and Amy Farrington.
Based on the 1975 series of the same created by Robert Hamner.
