BET’s “Sistas” & “Zatima” Star Devale Ellis is very vocal about his time in the NFL and every year he’s reminded of one of the most important moments of his life!!
The Star took to Instagram to share a very meaningful post with the fans and we loved reading every word.
Devale shared:
“Every Sunday after the NFL Draft is over I sit back and remember the disappointment. Khadeen & I alone in my dorm room waiting for a high priority free agent phone call but none ever came. I walked out into the inter mural fields by the C-Square dorms and sat on a single chair I found. Tears in my eyes.
Out of the shadows came this tiny figure. She mounted me as I sat with my head down. She picked my head up and said, “You walked on to this team and earned a spot… What makes you think this is gonna be any different?” The chip on my shoulder was now a bolder.
Monday morning I got a call that the Lions would invite me to rookie minicamp as a try-out. I told Kay, my family and my agent that that’s all I needed.
Long story short I dominated rookie mini camp and earned a contract, but that’s not the point of the story. The point is, NOBODY has to believe in you more than you believe in your self. There are thousands of young men going to bed tonight asking themselves, “Why doesn’t anyone believe?” Everyone that plays has a dream of getting drafted, and if it doesn’t happen the sound of the roaring crowd and fanatic cheers instantly disappear.
The silence is deafening but that is the perfect moment for clarity. If you firmly believe you got what it takes to prove it then PROVE IT. An opportunity WILL come, and if you stay sharp and stay ready, that one shot will be all you need.
EMBRACE THE PAIN. DONT LET IT CONSUME YOU. YOU’RE NOT ALONE. GET BACK TO WORK!”

“Sistas” follows a group of single Black females as they navigate their “complicated love life,” careers and friendship through the ups and downs of living in a modern world of social media and unrealistic relationship goals. The women must navigate this new-age dating scene as they continue to search for love in their 30’s.

Fatima begins to question herself and if she’s really what Zac needs when she can’t get through to him about dealing with past issues.”
