Netflix’s “The Circle” Season 5 is back and before we get into all of the drama and game play that’s going to take place, let’s talk about how the show is educating many viewers!
This season of “The Circle” features Raven Sutton who becomes the show’s first deaf contestant. She’s joined on the show by her interpreter and close friend, Paris McTizic. Raven is a social worker and an alumna of the private college Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C.
One viewer shared their respect on Reddit for Netflix making this happen:
“I personally just watch it to get my fix of dumb reality TV, but watching Paris and Raven actually did have me looking up some questions, like “can an interpreter involve themselves in the conversation between two people, or should they just be a communication mediator?” I know that some service-dog owners say that “when my dog is working and has the vest on, he is not my pet, he is my medical equipment” so i wanted to see if there was some equivalent to that thought in the deaf community.
Or how does hereditary deafness get inherited within families? Is there a specific gene, and what inheritance pattern does it get passed on?”
These all have good answers from a simple Google search that I wouldn’t have done if I wasn’t watching this season. So I think some good actually does come out of this show for viewers to educate themselves.
Side note: I think Paris is hilarious and amazingly in tune with Raven and would love to see more of him beyond his position as an interpreter first and foremost. We do get to see some of their interactions as just having fun with each other, I would love to see more of that.” – HelllsHoundAteMyBaby

“I’ve always loved the accessibility of the circle. I’m in a wheelchair and I can’t wait for the day that somebody in a wheelchair is on the show. There’s no physical need that would keep somebody who can’t walk for being on the show like a lot of shows have. No physical games.” – kittenwalrus
We totally agree! Once we seen that Raven would be participating in the show, we just knew that we had to watch!
The Circle is a popular competition reality series on Netflix that features multiple contestants living in the same apartment building for a few weeks.
