Netflix’s “Heartstopper” Star Sebastian Croft is finally speaking out after receiving backlash for a brand new role!
It was recently announced that Croft would be voicing two characters in Hogwarts Legacy, a Harry Potter role-playing game but because of JK Rowling comments on trans sparked backlash for the actor.
Sebastian Croft has addressed his role in the controversial Harry Potter game Hogwarts Legacy on Twitter.
A fan tweeted:
“@SebastianCroft “queer was always here” includes trans people. just reminding you bc you apparently forgot what your own merch stands for.
i hope all the trans people who are hurt by this situation are doing okay. pls know that you are loved and you are valid. i love you guys so much! 🏳️⚧️
people in the comments are the perfect example of cis people saying they’re allies and actually not being allies. 3 years ago? great. she’s been openly disgusting for 5 years. there is no excuse. listen to trans people.”
He responded:
“I was cast in this project over 3 years ago, back when all Harry Potter was to me, was the magical world I grew up with. This was long before I was aware of JK Rowling’s views.
I believe whole heartedly that trans women are women and trans men are men.
I know far more now than I did 3 years ago, and hope to learn far more in the next 3. I’m really sorry to anyone hurt by this announcement.
There is no LGB without the T ❤️”
What are your thoughts!?
Croft is best known as Heartstopper’s Ben Hope, protagonist Charlie’s (Joe Locke) bully with whom he also has a private relationship. The show’s central message is all about LGBTQ+ inclusivity, which Croft addresses. After becoming an Emmy winning series, Season 2 is set to debut this year!
Heartstopper tells the story of Nick and Charlie, two British teens at an all-boys grammar school. Charlie, a high-strung, openly gay overthinker, and Nick, a cheerful, soft-hearted rugby player, one day are made to sit together. They quickly become friends, and soon Charlie is falling hard for Nick, even though he doesn’t think he has a chance. But love works in surprising ways, and Nick is more interested in Charlie than either of them realized. Heartstopper is about love, friendship, loyalty and mental illness. It encompasses all the small stories of Nick and Charlie’s lives that together make up something larger.
