Back in May, it was announced that Amir Arison who has portrayed Aram Mojtabi for the past nine seasons of “The Blacklist” was leaving the show as he prepared to make his Broadway debut in the starring role of Amir in The Kite Runner!
Amir left the door open to recur in the future but he’s finally giving us more detail as to why he really left the show.
Although Amir stated he was done with stage, The Kite Runner pulled him back in.
“I didn’t want to do much stage anymore,” Arison recalled on the new episode of Stagecraft, Variety‘s theater podcast. Prior to “The Blacklist,” he’d appeared in several Off Broadway productions, but, he says, “I remember just depleting myself completely and not [being] sure if the rewards outweighed the toll.”
He shared that he was looking for a job because he wasn’t sure if The Blacklist would be picked up for a Season 10.
“The show got renewed, and just like a week or two before that I had gotten ‘The Kite Runner,’” he said. “And when I got ‘Kite Runner,’ I knew. There was no decision. I had been doing ‘Blacklist’ for so long, and ‘Kite Runner’ was an immense challenge, and I’m an actor and I have to challenge myself and scare myself.”
We’re glad he’s happy with his new gig and hope he can return to Blacklist soon.
