There’s always been news going around that James Spader almost didn’t star in “The Blacklist” and that he signed onto the series very late!!
When we say late we mean days before filming actually started.
Executive producer John Eisendrath and creator Jon Bokenkamp revealed Spader was almost replaced.
The show-runners revealed that Red role was previously offered to Kiefer Sutherland in 2012.
They also shared that Richard Gere, Bryan Cranston and Pierce Brosnan were also in the running to take on the role.
Kiefer Sutherland wasn’t able to take on the tile due to scheduling conflicts because he tours with his band The Kiefer Sutherland Band. He was set to Star as Red but that one hiccup led James Spader to the role.
The show runners were pretty shocked that James played the role as well as he did.
Eisendrath and Bokenkamp shared: “I don’t think any of us knew just how good he was going to be. He’s amazing in it, and it was really fun to watch him just become this person. That was a joy to see.”
We love that everything worked out perfectly.
