Will Crystal Hayslett & Devale Ellis Be On BET’s “Sistas” Less Because Of “Zatima”?

Devale and Crystal Sistas bet Zatima

If you didn’t know the news yet, “Sistas” stars Crystal Renee Hayslett & Devale Ellis are getting their own show on BET+ titled “Zatima”!

BET+ and Tyler Perry Studios announced the greenlight of the new BET+ original drama Tyler Perry’s Zatima, a spin-off from the #1 cable scripted series among Black viewers, Tyler Perry’s Sistas. The 10-episode one-hour comedy series follows popular characters ‘Zac,’ played by Devale Ellis and ‘Fatima,’ played Crystal Renee Hayslett, as they navigate the ups and downs of their relationship. Zatima marks the second spin-off from a Tyler Perry top-rated linear show to get greenlit by BET+, the leading streaming service for Black audiences. Executive produced, directed, and written by Tyler Perry, Zatima production at Tyler Perry Studios is finished and is set to premiere in 2023 on BET+.

Devale spoke with The List about how both shows will co-exist:

“They can still expect to see Zac a lot because Zac’s character is always going to be intertwined with Karen and Fatima. Karen is a mainstay on [“Sistas”], so Zac’s relationship with Karen is always going to be involved in that show. When you watch “Zatima,” it is extremely different because it’s just me and Crystal. It’s our relationship outside of the Sista circle. It’s what Zac goes through with his family [and] what Fatima goes through with her friends and family. We get to see what happens outside of the “Sistas” circle.

“Sistas” is about that group of friends and how they deal with their boyfriends and fiancés in and out of those relationships. This is specifically about Zac and his family. It’s like a different world when a different world spun off of “The Cosby Show.” It was Denise’s character in college, not Denise at home. It’s a completely different world, no pun intended.”

We really cannot wait to watch the show. It is said that “Sistas” characters will also make guest appearances on the comedy series and we cannot wait to see how it play out.

Tyler Perry should give fans a trailer by the end of “Sistas” Season 4, that would be a great treat.
